We provide history, physical examination and specialized testing to diagnose all forms of allergic diseases, asthma and immune system problems, and we provide allergen immunotherapy, the only treatment for allergies and asthma that can change the underlying immune problem and potentially lead to a cure. In addition, we prescribe medications that are safe and effective for the treatment of allergies and asthma.
Allergy Immunotherapy, also known as “allergy shots”, is a time-tested and evidence-based treatment that teaches the body to stop being allergic. It is the only treatment that can cure the allergic disease so that, after allergy shot treatment, the allergy and asthma medications may no longer be necessary. After isolating your specific allergens, Dr. Clark will prescribe and prepare an individualized allergy shot mix, and administer it weekly in gradually increasing doses. This “desensitization” process teaches the immune system to no longer react to the allergen with the allergic process. So, then, after about 6-12 months of treatment, past problems like pollens, dust, molds and animal danders no longer bother you like they did before!
History: Through extensive and in depth questioning, we will search for all clues to the presence of allergic illness, asthma and/or immune system dysfunction. In addition, we will seek clues regarding all potential triggers for the allergic disease.
Physical Examination: A thorough physical examination will be performed at each new patient visit, searching for any signs of allergic disease, asthma and/or immune dysfunction, as well as any signs of illnesses known to accompany or complicate allergic diseases.
Allergy Testing: We implement a comprehensive panel of skin testing allergens, including tree pollens, grass pollens, weed pollens, molds, animals, mites, cockroaches and foods. In addition, we have skin testing allergens for evaluation of possible fire ant, honeybee, yellow jacket, wasp and hornet allergy. Our skin testing method, as designed, is not painful, does not break the skin and does not cause bleeding.
Pulmonary Function Testing: We use a state-of-the-art computer-based spirometry device to obtain measures of lung function. We use this information to help in the diagnosis and ongoing management of asthma, and to help understand more about any lung complaints a patient may have.
